Our Cub Scout Pack held their annual Pinewood Derby on March 10th.
However, preparations began long ago as the boys and their parents carved a miniature racing car out of a block of pine wood. There are only a few guidelines to the cars. They can weigh no more than 5 ounces. The wheelbase, width, and length are restricted. And there can be no moving parts, liquid lubricant, or assisted propulsion.
The creativity is up to the boys. This year we had lots of wonderful classic car designs in many different colors. Some even had lego drivers. Some seemed to have fire coming out the back and one even looked like a large order of frys from McDonalds!
The pack enjoyed their brand new 4-lane computerized derby track. It was an upgrade from the previous 2-lane track the pack has used for the last 10 years built by a previous dad with software programmed by another dad.
The competition was fierce, but ultimately the fast car went to Isaac Cole. Congratulations Isaac!
The top three finishers of each den move forward to race against other cub scouts throughout Northern Arizona at the district derby which will be held on April 14th at 2:00PM at Sechrist Elementary School.
Thank you to all who made this happen for the boys, the parents, and our future generation of men!
