Our own Cub Scouts had an opportunity to visit Luke Air Force base for their 2018 Luke Days air show on March 17th. They got to see the Navy’s Blue Angels perform, as well as a variety of military and civilian aerial acts. Luke’s very own F-35 was showcased, the A-10 Thunderbolt, and historical planes such as the P-51 Mustang.
The event opened with a single parachute from the US Air Force Parachute Team bringing down the US Flag while the national anthem was sung.
One highlight of the event was the Tora, Tora, Tora demonstration which included six replica Japanese aircraft. The event included storytelling of what happened while planes seemingly bombed the field. You could even feel the heat of the explosions where we stood. The intent of this demonstration was to help generations of individuals understand that war does not discriminate in the pain it causes and that courageous individuals on both sides lose their lives.
Planes on display included the C-5M Super Galaxy, the C-130 Super Hercules, the F-15 Strike Eagle, the F-15, AH-64 Apache Helicopter, C-17 Globemaster, and the A-10 Thunderbolt, F-16 Fighting Falcon, F-22 Raptor, F-35 Lightning II, and many more.
It was a very fun day!
